How To Choose the Right DJ For Your Wedding Reception
Are you stressing out about how to choose the right DJ for your wedding reception? Around the triad area of Winston-Salem, brides tend to get very overwhelmed because every DJ company sounds the same, making it hard to know which wedding DJ is a good fit for them. One of our recent brides said, “It’s like comparing apples to apples”.
So, how do you choose the right DJ for YOU?
A good Professional DJ that has the ability to read the room, have everyone up and dancing, ultimately ensuring everyone has a great time. Out of all the people you hire for your celebration, the DJ probably has the greatest impact on how your guests remember your big day.
But of course, that’s coming from me, a professional DJ. So, I decided to go out and ask other key members of the event planning team, professional wedding planners Tracie Morris, Tammy Washington and Felicia Jinks. Although they’re in different geographical areas, this topic is an overwhelming thing across the country. Therefore, this advice applies to pretty much every couple getting married. Here, they’re sharing their secrets on how they also help brides plan the perfect wedding to choose the right DJ for their ceremony and reception.
You pay for what you get! Don’t hire a Craig’s List DJ. When they don’t show up, you’re not going to be happy anymore because you didn’t get a deal, you got a headache!
The DJ you select will set the vibe at the reception. If you choose a DJ who can’t read the crowd, and play music that keeps people dancing, the fun factor won’t be what you want.
Most couples underestimate the importance of choosing the right DJ for their wedding.
5 Things To Consider Before Choosing
1. How important is music and entertainment to you
Do you want a DJ that will create the ultimate dance party with everybody’s favorite hits and requests? Do you want a DJ who plays more obscure songs that only you and your spouse love? Are you looking for a DJ to simply play background throughout the reception? When it comes to the wedding day you’ve always dreamed of, you can get exactly what you want in a DJ. But first, you have to know the right questions to ask your DJ before hiring.
2. Take Inventory of yourself and your fiancé’s personality
When your big day, it will be all about YOU and what you’ve always envisioned. The spotlight will be on you as your family, friends, and guests Take part in celebrating your day of Union with your spouse. Take a moment to reflect on the likes & dislikes of your taste in music. What are some things you may have seen at a wedding or on social media that makes you say “I want to experience something like that at my wedding”.
Example: Have you been to a wedding or event where you fell in love with how the uplighting matched the colors of the beautiful decor.
Do you want an all out party or club atmosphere with a lot of fun & dancing. Or do you want a night of background music with games, socializing where dancing is not a priority. Have your future spouse do the same. Once you do that, you will be able to determine whether or not the DJ is a good fit for you.
3. Look for Recommendations and reviews
Although some venues provide a list of recommended wedding DJs or recommend their in-house DJ, we strongly suggest meeting with local wedding DJs that are highly recommended by reputable sources you know and trust. Afterward, see if that DJ has any past wedding performances on his social media, Venmo, or YouTube channel. Also, listen to some of the mixes on his/her Mixcloud, Twitch, or Soundcloud channel.
